Manchester Cathedral is, it's fair to say, a pretty spectacular venue for your wedding ceremony. There's been a church on the site since 923, and the current building has served the people of the city since 1215. Despite this being a fascinating and awe-inspiring fact - imagining the thousands of couples who must have been married there over the centuries, and the lives they went on to lead - I wasn't thinking about this as I waited for Laura to arrive for the service. Instead, as their <a title="Home" href="https://joncripwell.co.uk/">wedding photographer</a>, I was looking out for a white, modern, Hackney-Cab-style 'I Do' wedding taxi which was transporting the bride from where we'd spent a calm and relaxed morning getting ready at home in the suburbs of the city to the cathedral where Ryan was already waiting, slightly nervously, at the altar.

The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and, after a liberal application of confetti, the couple were whisked away in their taxi to The Old Grammar School, which was all set up and looked stunning - as you can see in the photos below! As their <a title="Home" href="https://joncripwell.co.uk/">wedding photographer</a>, I can honestly say that the day was everything that Laura and Ryan could ever have wanted it to be, and I'm so glad that I was asked to be there to capture it for them.

Han and Beth met online during the 2021 lockdown, one wet and rainy day in Manchester. Fast forward 3 years and these two were stood at the end of the aisle in the <a title="" href="https://therivermillvenue.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">River Mill Wedding Venue</a>, Darley Abbey, reading their carefully composed and completely unique wedding vows to one another in front of their family and friends.

&nbsp;

The two had ditched the tradition of spending the night before the wedding apart, and so I met them both in one of the cottages near the River Mill, where they were relaxing, enjoying the morning and having their hair styled and makeup applied. The bed was littered with snacks - so my kind of morning!

Before long, Beth headed off to the River Mill to finish getting ready, (bumping into beautiful Hollie, their dog, who was being looked after by <a title="" href="https://www.instagram.com/dogs_andweddings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dogs and Weddings)</a> while Han stayed at the cottage. I spent the next forty-five minutes or so running between the two locations to make sure I'd got shots of both brides applying the finishing touches. Over at the River Mill, guests were beginning to arrive and were entertained by the fabulous music of Lily Kerbey (check out here <a title="" href="https://www.instagram.com/lilykerbeymusic/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram here</a>) who was brilliant all day! Bethany and Han had also arranged for the wonderful Connie from Wit And Wonder Ceremonies (<a title="" href="https://www.instagram.com/witandwonderceremonies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here on Insta</a>) to act as celebrant, and it was a pleasure to work with her. Connie really took the time to get to know Han and Beth, and that made the ceremony completely personal to them.

The rest of the day passed perfectly, in a heady mix of music, dancing, lawn giant jenga, drinks, sunshine, Hollie-dog chaos, sparklers, sunglasses for guests (one of the best ideas for a wedding ever - check out the shots below!), and lots and lots of love and laughter! It was an absolute joy to spend the day with Beth, Han, their awesome friends and family and the other brilliant suppliers that helped make the day so memorable. Jon did the photography for our wedding in August, and we couldn’t have been happier with his work. You will find the about page from my existing website between the “I’m Jon: tea-lover, husband, father, photographer, writer, book-worm, teacher, cricket-watcher, Peak-District explorer. Not necessarily in that order! I live in Derby with my wife Anna and our beautiful daughters Eleanor and Sophie.

Anna introduced me to cricket when we met. Until then I couldn’t see the point of a game that lasted for five days and could end in a rain-induced draw! However, by the time I proposed to her in 2010, we couldn’t think of a better venue than a cricket ground for our wedding reception! At the time, it was certainly the best day of my life – joint best now, since Ellie and Sophie arrived! – and well worth all the hours of planning that went into it. We LOVE looking back at our album and reminiscing about our day. We love that Ellie and Sophie are both now old enough so that we can sit down and show her how young and good-looking her parents once were!”.
